Health Update-April 10

Seneca R-7 Health Update- April 10

4/10/2020

As you may already know school closure will be extended for the remainder of the academic year (May 15th). We are all saddened by this but I want to assure you your child will be alright. It is hard to put it in perspective but I want to remind you that this is a small time in comparison to the 13 years your child has been or will be in school. We are not done learning and I encourage you to keep your children on a schedule and doing academic work daily. We are going to do everything we can to continue providing learning opportunities and enrichment activities.

Meals will continue to be provided through the end of the school year. I would like to recognize our food service, transportation, and maintenance/custodial departments for their extraordinary efforts to make sure our students are receiving meals. They have currently served over 30,000 meals. Teachers will be contacting students, answering questions and providing packets for those that do not have a device or internet access. Currently we have provided material through April 24th and we will refresh the material to last through the end of the school term.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS
We have many kids who have personal items in our schools and we are targeting the week of May 11-15th to open schools in some manner to allow students to come pick up their belongings. Your building principal will be in touch with you in the next couple of weeks regarding the logistics of this process.

GRADING/CREDITS
Our mission is to ensure student grades will not be negatively impacted as a result of school closure. Our charge is to err on the side of grace. We have already taught and assessed a large majority of the learning objectives for the school year. We will not be taking grades for new material during the fourth quarter. Kindergarten-8th grade students will be assessed for learning according to the standards that have been taught prior to school closure. 9-12th grade students earning credit have the opportunity to make up any missing work they had prior to school closure. High school students’ final grade will NOT be calculated by your third quarter grade alone. We will factor in the total amount of points possible in the fourth quarter and what you earned in the third quarter to determine your second semester and final grade. I highly recommend students contact their teachers to see if you have any missing work that needs to be completed.

ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES
All Spring sports and competitions have been cancelled for the remainder of this school year.

SUMMER SCHOOL
If allowable we will have summer school. As with many things during this time we are uncertain of the month but if we can have summer school we will do so. The goal for summer school will be to address any gaps and material not learned during school closure so I would highly recommend that if we are able to have summer school you make plans for your child to attend.

SENIORS
First of all, my heart goes out to you and I am so sorry about the reality of situation. We WILL have a graduation and it is going to a great celebration. We are not sure when that will be at this time but we are going to send out a few possible dates next week. We are going to do what is right by you because this is your time. All of the Senior celebrations and activities are postponed but NOT cancelled. Mr. Hueller is going to have discussions with a group of you to determine what you want it to look like.

This is unchartered territory and as always we will continue to make decisions on what we believe is in the best interest of ALL students. I continue to appreciate your patience and I want to encourage you to reach out to your teachers, principals, or central office if you have any questions Email will be the quickest mode of communication because school offices are closed and teachers are regularly checking and responding to emails If you need to phone, please call the administration building and leave a message if your call isn’t answered. We will continue to send out updated information via emails, dialer messages, Facebook and Twitter.

After consultation with area Health Departments and school districts we have decided to close Seneca schools through Friday April 24th. We will reevaluate at that time and if cleared would plan to resume classes on Monday April 27th. This closure will apply to all aspects of student involvement. All extra-curricular events and practices are cancelled until such time as school resumes.

1. We will continue to provide meals during the extended closure. We have a delivery system that utilizes our school buses and vans to reach fourteen delivery sites. Pickup is also still available at Seneca Elementary School. We’re currently delivering meals on Monday and Thursday. Each delivery contains meals for multiple days. Children ages 1 to 18 are eligible for this service. If you have not signed up for meal delivery or pickup, you may still do so by utilizing this link. https://forms.gle/4oEK9n1fB4a1FPmw9
However, everyone who has previously signed up will remain on the list. You’ll only need to submit the form once.

2. On the senecar7.com website, our “At Home Resources” tab contains instructional resources for parents and guardians to continue working with their students. Please know these alternative methods will be opportunities for enrichment and learning, not requirements. Students who are unable to access these resources online will be receiving packets of instructional materials in the mail.

3. Buildings will be closed, effective March 30th. Only essential staff will continue to work during this time. If you need to contact the school, please call Central Office at 417-776-3426. If your call is not answered, please leave a message.

This situation continues to change rapidly and we will continue to update you as we receive new information. I encourage you to utilize our At Home Resources and please remember you can always email your teachers with any questions you may have regarding the learning. We MISS our kids and are looking forward to when we get to see them in our hallways and classrooms again.

In an effort to continue to provide support to our families during school closure, we are now able to deliver 7 meals (breakfast and lunch) at one time. We're looking into setting up drop-off locations within the district between the hours of 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM on Mondays. The meal drop-off schedule will be developed and published after we receive this information. We tentatively plan to begin offering this service on Monday, March 23rd.
If you know of a family who cannot access this form, please let them know they can sign up by calling the office at 417-776-3426. Please help us get the word out. Thank you!

If you work in the Health Care Industry and are forced to stay home during the school closure period, please contact the Seneca R-7 Central Office tomorrow between the hours of 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. The Seneca School District is considering organizing a teacher supervised program for the children of health care professionals in grades K-6. We need to have a count by Thursday, March 19th to determine if there is a need for the program. The Seneca School District is committed to working together with our community as we face this challenge.

Dear Parents and Staff:

After consultation with area Health Departments and school districts we have decided to close Seneca schools through Friday April 3rd. We will reevaluate at that time and if cleared would plan to resume classes on Monday April 6. This closure will apply to all aspects of student involvement. All extra-curricular events and practices are cancelled until such time as school resumes.

We understand the hardship this may cause for our patrons and we do not take this decision lightly. This is no doubt a time of uncertainty and there are many unanswered questions but as a school district we want you to be certain we are focused on the well- being of our children and community. To that end I would like to share the following supports we plan to provide during the closing.

1. Beginning tomorrow March 17, we will be providing Grab and Go meals for all children ages 1-18. These meals will be available for pickup at the parent drop off and pick up line at the Elementary School between the hours of 11:00 and 12:30. Each meal will include lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following morning. In order to give us a count, please complete the form by clicking the link here . If you are not able to complete the form you may still pick up meals. Please call your child’s school office and let them know the number of meals you will need by 9:00.

2. We will be sharing some instructional resources for parents and guardians to continue working with their students. Please know these alternative methods will be opportunities for enrichment and learning, not requirements. There will be a tab on our website in which you will be able to access grade appropriate resources.

3. Each building office will be open daily from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. for questions and concerns. Please communicate by phone or email.
This situation has been changing rapidly and we will continue to update you as we receive new information. I am so thankful we have a strong community that supports our children and school district. We are here for you as we work through this time together.

Sincerely:

Brandon Eggleston
